My WIFI internet disconnects, modem connected

Hello There,
I Have an HP Convertible X360 11ab1xx laptop. The wifi card is an RTL8821CE.
It is multi-booted with Win10,Ubuntu 20.04, FatDog 811 and EasyOS.

Bionic 8.5 will run nicely from Thumb Drive and connect to wifi without problem but will not install. Fossapup will not connect to wifi nor will Easyos.

So I defaulted to Ubuntu 20.04, it has performed well enough up until a couple of months ago when it started to spuriously drop internet connection, so in came FatDog, which connected easily, but it to now loses internet connection also. Curiously both systems show an active connection to to my router. Windows10 wifi connection is stable but I only use it on the very odd occasion.

USB sharing from my phone works well enough but running a cable to a phone pretty well negates the advantage of a laptop.

I have been running Puppy Linux since late version 4 and I prefer Puppy over all others, simple and elegant, although Easyos looks and feels good except that it will not connect via wifi.
Does anyone have any suggestions please.
Thanks Russ.

If it was reliable for a substantial time and then became unreliable, my first suspicion is an intermittent hardware problem.

Have you looked at the logs to see whether they contain any messages relevant to the disconnects?

Thank You frankbell,
My first thought was hardware so I went over to Win10 but it had no problems with WIFI disconnecting; only Ubuntu 20.04 (upgraded to 20.1 )and Fatdog 811. I will go over to Ubuntu and have a look at the logs.
Cheers Russ

Hello again frankbell,
The Ubuntu log has one reference that I recognise viz, "rtl8821ce 0000:02:00.0 wlo1: renamed from wlano".
However a new banner has appeared at the login screen of Ubuntu viz "Activation of network connection failed".
This problem originally only occurred after waking from sleep mode but gradually grew worse till it would lose connection spuriously and lately altogether, although the wifi settings said the router was still connected. The router is o'kay since my wife and I use it simultaneously.
If I go from Ubuntu 20.04 and boot into either Ubuntu Studio 20.04 then the wifi picks straight up, although Ubuntu Studio is starting to exhibit the same spurious behavior.
Thank You for time
Russ

Power management issue? Are you using NetworkManager?
