Boot problem
 

I made a live puppy cd .When i try to boot my pc lock up at the key board config prompt.help

This isn't very much information to help you. I would suggest a different live CD and see if that works? Is this a problem where an existing install won't boot now? Did this happen when after you burned the CD? Normally live CDs don't write anything to the hard drive. If this is the case then there is something else that went wrong besides your puppy cd. I'm not familiar with puppy, but is it asking for the keyboard settings as part of the install process? Normally the default is okay in that case. We would like to help, but we need more information.

The live cd boots.During boot process...saving to mem.I prompt for the keyboard config.Problem is the key board will not respond.

Suggestions would then be...

- Maybe you have a USB or Bluetooth keyboard and puppy cannot see it
- The keyboard is not being properly set up in the bios setup and in that case plug a PS/2 keyboard in to get things going or change the bios settings.
- Try a different live CD, maybe Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Suse, Mandriva. Those normally work well for newer users and newer hardware.

Wish I had something better for you on that one. I confess that none of these suggestions are that great.

I do have a usb wireless keyboard.I tried ubuntu daper live cd ,work fine.My system have 2 HD,i am planning to keep xp on my primary drive and install ubuntu on my slave.I would like to use a bootloader that will not change my MBR.GAG have the option of creating a bootable, bootloader on a floppy.The problem is i dont have a floppy drive,i am not sure if this can be done on a cd or dvd.

I've never done it but I don't see why you couldn't burn the boot loader onto a CD. In case you screw it up, as I know I would :) have a few CD's handy so you can try again ;-) I think Ubuntu has an option to boot when you put it in? I can't remember for sure. That might meet your criterion. Good luck.

At the boot: prompt, try typing "puppy ide=nodma". A lot of boot hangs are due to bad interrupts on the DMA channel.
