Hi when I try to do ./configure to install the Kdevelop 1.4 source code, it works until it checks for QT versions 1.4.4 to 2.0.0 and then it tells me to check my installation. The distribution I use is Mandrake 7.2. Any ideas? Thanks.

You could try to download the mandrake rpm for kdevelop. It'll be on the kde website mirrors at http://www.kde.org .The rpm will tell you what version of qt you will require, and that too can also be downloaded.
