X server probs with 9.2
Hi
I got mandrake 9.2 installed some days ago, and I had to discover that the X-server needs more and more memory the longer my system runs. I read that it might be caused by the anti-aliasing of fonts I use (was on suse mailing-list concerning X 4.1, update to 4.2 with bugfix recommended). So, is it still the same problem with X 4.3? Or can I keep the fonts and solve the problem another way? X runs on a matrox G550 & athlon 900, if thats any help. Cheers, matze |
Do you have a link to this list that talked about the problem with anti-aliasing fonts? I see my memory usage growing also, but i though this was just the usually memory management behavior. I ran a memory intensive test program and when it completed i noticed lots of memory freed back up. I would like to learn more about this.

It's here and about running X 4.1 + KDE 2.2. Says that the problem should be fixed.
During the week I had up to 70% - 1 gb (including swap) - memory usage of X. I installed some font-packages and haven't had the problem yet. But I didn't use the system that heavily since then. Perhaps it's a KDE bug. I just found (also on suse sdb) this. matze |
