Hi,

Web says that Ralink chipset. I assume you can use serialmonkey driver.

Happy Pengins!

beagle2 11-30-2006 11:50 AM

Ok to confirm chipset open console/terminal and type lspci -v or /sbin/lspci -v and post back. If it is ralink do lsmod or /sbin/lsmod in terminal and see if rt2500 is listed. If so then just configure via make new network connection. If not then we can try something else.

02:08.0 Network controller: Ralink Ralink RT2500 802.11 Cardbus Reference Card (rev 01) is your wireless device using rt2500 chipset. Driver has been included by default for some time so to confirm it is loaded do lsmod in terminal, rt2500 should be listed. If not as root (su then root pass) modprobe rt2500 and check lsmod again. If it appears then go to configure your computer, network and internet, set up a new interface.

kaz2100 12-01-2006 08:00 AM

Hi,

If driver is included, check "iwconfig" and see ra0 ra1.....

Happy Penguins!!

If nothing happens when you insert the card, then maybe the drivers are missing. You need to install the kernel-source package, then go to serialmonkey and get the drivers you need. You will need to compile them from source by doing "make" and then "make install" as root. Once thats done, try reconfiguring your wireless network and see if "ra0" interface is available.

I have ralink 2500 on my laptop 64bit amd using 2007.

Wireless is now excellent but using 2007 so maybe downloading the 2007 will solve this.

hey guys-
--------

I did what you instructed:

RESULTS: rt2500 is listed via the "lsmod" command.

STEPS: Proceeding to config new network interface-

ra0: Ralink|Ralink RT2500 802.11 Cardbus Reference Card

------------------------------------------------------------------
QUERY: When prompted to enter wireless card parameters|

Operating Mode= Managed
Network name (ESSID)= My network
Encryption mode=Restricted WEP
Encryption key= What do I put here???

QUERY: When configuring network device ra0 (driver rt2500)

I must assign host name from DHCP address

but, what Is the DHCP host name and how do I get It???

Does It have something to do with my ip address???

Also When I put the cd that came with my wcard in my cdrom to install, nothing happens. Why is this??

Thanks in advance for the help guys!!

If you are using encrypted wireless, then you need to enter the key so that the card is authorised to access your wireless router. The DHCP hostname is automatically given to you by your ISP so don't worry about it.

beagle2 12-02-2006 03:19 AM

You have to put in the Encryption key assigned to your router/access point, that is if you have encryption set up. See this for more http://www.practicallynetworked.com/...ss_encrypt.htm.
DHCP host name can be anything at all, just google for it if you really want to know more. Leave it ticked and no worries. You should never need to know the address of your DHCP server in a home network.
Your cd wont work because it contains windows software which are of no use to you installing drivers. There are applications that will install it in Linux , Wine, Cedega , but will not install drivers for you.

Another fantastic ending to a great drama. THE END.
