Mplayer (PLF) install gives me "Signature Verfication Error"
After I downloaded the PLF version (includes DVD playback) of Mplayer for Mandrake 9.1. I get the following error:
"Signature Verification Error The signature of the package 'divc4linux-20020418-3plf.i586.rpm' is not correct. Gpg: signature made.... using DSA key ID CABA22AE gpg: can't check signature: public key not found Do you want to install it anyway?" I said NO to the install and the same for each other file downloaded.I have a dial up connection so please don't tell me to try again. Why do I have to get some key? Where do I get this key? What do I do with this keyHow do I install this key in Mandrake 9.1 (if I need to)? |
It's safe to say 'yes' to the signature check, the rpm gets installed just fine anyway. By the way, why is there always this error message, even when the package is ok, and it can be installed correctly??

I am very new to computers and Linux
in particular. I would like to ask a question if I may. I dont know if this is bad manners to interject into a conversation but I need an answer and dont know where or how to post it. I bought a very cheap Microtel computer MicrotelSYSMAR 710. It was supposed to be ready to go online. I bought it from Walmart. No instructions came with it not even a bill of sale. I called but have gotten promises but no results. I even into intouch with the Microtel company. I was told to buy their monitor (which I did) then I was told I needed to put in a modem.(which) I did. The rep walked me through it. THE MODEM CAME TO ME WITHOUT A BILL OF SALE TO TELL WHICH IT WAS OR WHAT COMPANY IT CAME FROM. Now after all of this, I am getting the run around from Microtel. The switchboard op wont put me through to a tech. My problem is that when I tried to install the Recovery disc after putting in the new modem I keep getting a FATAL ERROR 6000. Now I cant get the computer to show any program. It appears all wiped out. I cant install the program with the recovery disc. I was told to live the Password area blank. It that correct? Is it possible that this is what is giving the error. Thanks. Cadilla |
Instead of "post reply," you want to click "make new thread" in the forum. ;)
As for the signature verification errors, that's because you haven't told GPG that you trust plf sources. to do so, download http://plf.zarb.org/plf.asc and then run "gpg --import plf.asc" in the directory you downloaded to. Generally, it's fine to say yes and go ahead with the install, even without the key. |

Thanks for the explanation about the key. Now I know what I am missing and where to get it. However, I am downloading RPMS and I have no way of knowing where Mplayer is going to install. Similarily the install starts as soon as the download is complete. How do I install the key into a directory before the install as its the install process which creates the directory? |

I use the PLF version of Mplayer because Mandrake do not provide a DVD decoder in there version due to the "legal quagmire".
Everytime, I use Mplayer (Mandrake and PLFs version) it hangs my system - I have to press CTRL+ALT+Bckspc to shut down the system. |

However, you may take a look at sound. I had something just like that happen to me with Xine because it was using ALSA instead of aRTsd. Cheers. |

My sound did not work until I went through the drivers troubleshooting instructions. Same driver I just had to trun various commands. I get an high pitched whistle sometimes when I pass my hand over the speaker on the laptops palmrest. It is an ALSA driver but how do I switch to aRTsd? I am a newbie. |

:study: Mandrake 9.1 comes out with the dvd decoder and Mplayer, It's just that it is not included in the installation process. search for the "dvd" keyword inside rpm drake (go to add software in the Mandrake Control Center). I'm using Xine to read DVD and it works perfectly (when it comes to DVD playing, I really DO prefer this soft) :D If you can find it anyway..... As i'm using a powerpack, it might explain why I have it (I dunno about the download version) :Pengy: |

:study: The key is usually provided inside a package to asume that it has not been corrupted nor modified. But it is not included in mandrake unofficial / cooker rpm's. Anyway, you could have said yes to that question so that it would have installed the package anyway (and remove it with urpmi if it would have not worked) Of course, if you only seek for best security, you've done right. |
wthoman, changing to aRTsd got sound on Xine working.
Nahl, Ihave the powerpack too but cannot get DVD option in xine can you be more specific |
John,
to get the DVD option in xine you need to install with rpmdrake those library: libdvdcss, lib dvdnav, libdvdplay and libdvdread. Also install the xine-dvdnav to access the DVD navigation through Xine (but this is a beta) |
