Mandrake Linux 9.1 - GUI Questions

Please help me!.

I have just installed mandrake linux 9.1 and login as normal and i get my user command $. If I type KDE into it I will load KDE. When i installed i said for it to install gnome as well. Is there an option or command to switch to gnome.

Regards

try "startgnome"
I think that should work..........
if KDE is starting, you've evidentally got X configured correctly, but run "/usr/X11R6/bin/xf86config" while root at the command prompt to be sure

It says:

(gnome-sesion:2270): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:

Have you got any ideas on what this means?

you can also do this on the command line:

/usr/sbin/chksession -l

that will list the available sessions (windowmanagers)

Then you can use startx to start one using one of them (case and spelling matters)

such as: startx Gnome or startx icewm or startx failsafe.

OK, I'm just guessing here........ once you've got KDE started, I assume everything loads correctly?? No faults, KDE starts completely etc??

You're welcome :D I find it pretty neat myself since I weaned myself away from the DM (I hated the Mandrake DM and while the KDE and GNOME DM aren't bad, they use up resources which I like having)

I found that out browsing Mandrakeuser.org. There's TONS of little hints and tips for Mandrake, I highly recommend doing some reading there.
