lilo stoped working after formated winXP
 

ok.. I just had winXP crash.. (i wonder how many times thats said a day?) so i had to format my C drive.. everything went all good but now lilo is bugged.. when i try and load it up it just says

bah bah bah (bios stuff)

and then sits there.. does continue on like normal.. its on a dffirent hd than winXP.. so its weird.. my bios also got swiched back to my other HD when i reinstalled winXP.. anyway to get back to mandrake?

If you didn't make a bootdisk or a lilo floppy, you can run the Mandrake Installation CD again, choose upgrade but don't select any packages. It'll check your rpm database but won't install any packages but will reinstall lilo for you in the MBR. You can then boot into Mandrake as well as Windows.

There's no need to run an upgrade. Load the Mdk cd and type "rescue" at the prompt. You'll be given an option to reinstall the bootloader

the method I described above does not actually perform an upgrade, but it returns you to the last option that you had when you did the initial install and you can configure services and your bootloader e.t.c, so yeah if they want to rescue their system that way it works. I also acknowledge that your method works as well.

Remember, to get that prompt, you need to hit F2
