kernel error?
i'm using mandrake 9.1 with kernel 2.4.21 with KDE 3.1 and i think i have a kernel error/problem because i find this in my kde control centre=>system=>Linux Kernel window:
"The kernel configuration could not be read due to the following error: cannot open /usr/scr/linux/arch//config.in for reading Either your kernel sources contain invalid configuration rules oryou just found a bug in the KDE kernel configurator" AND, i tried to install alsa driver, but after ./configure --with-cards=intel8x0 it said:... checking for kernel version... The file /usr/src/linux/include/linux/version.h does not exist. Please, install the package with full kernel sources for your distribution or use --with-kernel=dir option to specify another directory with kernel sources (default is /usr/src/linux). so, what's the problem? |
Install the kernel-source rpm package corresponding to your kernel version (probably 2.4.21-13mdk).
It contains all files in /usr/src/linux. After installing this package check /usr/src to see if there is a linux directory, if not create a symlink from /usr/src/linux-2.4.21 ti /usr/src/linux. That's all :) |
thanx, i'll try that as soon as i downoad the fresh kernel...
btw, isn't it a bit risky reinstalling kernel? i'm linux (not computer) newbie so a couple of extra advices would be nice... |
No there is no risk installing a new kernel ...
But if you download the new kernel for mandrake, download the corresponding source kernel too. |
