internet will not connect using mandriva live

i am a complete :newbie: to linux, and so i tried the new mandriva 2006 live. however, the Internet will not work (firefox wont connect) i am having this problem with both a desktop PC and my acer aspire 1672wlmi laptop. i am sorry if this has been answered before but i have searched several forums and have not found anything related to live CD's. i am probably going to be asked for more information regarding what make of wireless adapter on my laptop and the Ethernet on the desktop. the desktop i am using at the moment is plugged into a bt voyager 205 adsl router, if that helps. i am running windows xp home edition Pentium 4 3ghz 512mb ram.

please help, and thank you!

Yup, you're gonna get asked about your network devices :) Would have expected the Live CD to pick up at least one of them if you've moved between machines. Is this ADSL modem a USB modem, or do you connect to it via an ethernet cable?

the desktop is connected via usb to a BT modem, and the wireless access point is connected to the Ethernet port on the router/modem thing (the BT modem). i'm not sure if it has recognized it or not, i can't access web pages anyway! have tried the hard-drake thing and am presented with a mammoth list of drivers - no idea what one to use, cant see anything obvious! I found my wireless card on device manager, and it said it was a "INPROCOMM IPN2220 Wireless LAN Card". I will only be using the laptop to run mandriva (the wireless one plugged into Ethernet) and i only mentioned the desktop because that didn't work either. thanks for your quick reply!

sorry for the double post, but...

...i found some information about a "ndis wrapper"? i discovered (http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/m...index.php/List) that my laptop (or at the least the driver) was supported by this:

Laptop: Acer Aspise 1524 WLMi

* Chipset: Linksys, A Division of Cisco Systems [AirConn] INPROCOMM IPN 2220 Wireless LAN Adapter (rev 01)
* pciid: 17fe:2220
* Driver: Ndiswrapper 1.4-rc2 and driver from planetamd64.com (and the official driver from Acer works, too).
* Other: Works correctly with 64bit system with open access, encryption works (with wpa_supplicant) at least for WPAPSK + TKIP. Other methods untested.

well i downlaoded the driver from the oficial acer website (http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers...k/as_1670.html) and was presented with a load of files to install. however, the ndis wrapper thing that mandriva uses needs to be a .inf file, right? but the only .inf files i could find in the download was a neti2220.inf file in both a Winxp and a Win2k folder. i tried using these in mandriva and it said something like: "could not install neti2220.inf!".

i installed the driver in windows (in case it was more updated) and went to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers but they were all .sys files. not sure where to go from here. once again sorry for the double post and thanks for your help!
