Installing GLIB

How do I install GLIB so other programs know that its installed? I did everything to isntall it, and it installed the files and all, but XMMS wont see that its installed.

What did you do to install it? was it from the source (./configure, make, make install) or with an .rpm? If it was RPM you'll need to install the libglib-1.2-devel (or something like that) version if you want to compile programs against it.

I installed it from the source with ./configure, make, and make install.

So which version did you install? Xmms looks for Gtk-1.2 and it's Gtk-1.2 which needs Glib-1.2.

it should be on your CD's..If not go here and you can get almost anything you need....RPM''s

I went through the process of installing XMMS the other night. I just downloaded the RPM, ran it and was informed that a few other things needed to be installed, put in the CD's and was up and running in no time.

Your right, I just changed from using FTP to my disks, worked like a charm :), also got some other software, installed with no errors at all :)

After using XMMS i would like to find something that works better. I have 1000 plus MP3's that are correctly tagged for using MusicMatch Jukebox in windows but i have noticed numerous sorting problems in XMMS. If anyone could recommend a program i would appreciate it.

Remove all your media using the software media manager located at

Menu > Configure > Packaging > Software media manager

Then remove them all

Step 1 > Click Add
Step 2 > Click 'Removeable device'
Step 3 > Enter the following informtion

Name > Installation CD 1 (x86) (cdrom1)
Path or mount point > removable://mnt/cdrom/Mandrake/RPMS
Relitive path to synthesis/hdlist > ../../Mandrake/base/hdlist1.cz

Now, for the second disk do steps 1-3 again, but use this information below, instead of the information above.

Name > 'Installation CD 2 (x86) (cdrom2)'
Path or mount point > removable://mnt/cdrom/Mandrake/RPMS2
Relitive path to synthesis/hdlist > ../../Mandrake/base/hdlist2.cz

For the third disk, do steps 1-3 again, just use this information below, instead of the information above.
Name > International CD (x86) (cdrom3)'
Path or mount point > removable://mnt/cdrom/Mandrake/RPMS3
Relitive path to synthesis/hdlist > ../../Mandrake/base/hdlist3.cz

Now you should have 3 things on your list
Installation CD 1 (x86) (cdrom1)
Installation CD 2 (x86) (cdrom2)
International CD (x86) (cdrom3)

Now click update, and click check all 3 of them, then udate it just to be sure that its all done right, then you're done, to install software from your disks (Sound software, graphics software, servers, etc..)
go to
Menu > Configure > Packaging > Install software

Itll make a list, check what you wanna install, click install, and it should ask for you to put in a disk, it susaly asks for all 3 disks, cus it doesent know which CD has the stuff u wanna install on it, so it searchs each one till it find what you want.
