How to install Mandriva 2007 Powerpack over Network?
I have a bit of a problem.
My Server PC uses an old CD drive which can't read anything larger then 650MB CD's. This makes it impossible to use either the Live CD nor the Powerpack DVD. So, my only option would be to access a remote PC's DVD drive for the install. Any idea how to do this? |
You could do a network installation using FTP, HTTP or NFS. I think you would need to create a repo from the Mandriva discs on one system. After that you would boot your other system from a floppy or cd and then choose to do a network installation. I don't know the detailed info about this process, but I am sure you can find some docs on google or the Mandriva site.

As opposed to some distros where you can get
a mini iso (minimal) or just a CD geared at FTP install, I am not sure there is such a cd left for mandriva nowadays. It is all integrated on the "normal" CD boot options. However look at the errata there is a fixed iso (minimal I guess) I think with the minimal CD (see quote at the end), or just the normal first cd out of 3 or 4 choose "alt0" then network install should work. Whatever the option, I am pretty sure it is there at the graphical boot prompt For 2005 the method was <<Mandriva install without ISOs, HowTo FTP install and HD to HD install>> http://forums.scotsnewsletter.com/in...howtopic=11616 A bit OTT http://mdv.vmlinuz.ca/Development/Ho...ge_One_Install FTP installation fails due to paths with double slashes + fixed boot iso http://qa.mandriva.com/twiki/bin/vie...ails_due_to_pa Quote:
