How do you remove Mandrake?

I want to add Win 98 to a drive that only has Man 9.2 on it.

I have tried to load the windows but it will not accept this. In the manual it says you can remove Linux with the dos command fdisk /mbr, but since I don't have the dos on disk I cannot do it.

I want to load the win98 and then add Mandrake.

Anyone, know what to do?

Unfortunately kids want to play Windoze games. I would think winex bundled with Mandrake, is a must for this problem.

OK, here we go:

to remove mandrake, first you need to remove the partition (because win98 cannot recognize files systems but FAT 16 and 32)

to do so: simply boot on the first disk like you would do to install a mandrake, when it comes to diskdrake, then you can do your partitionning. Create a FAT/Windows Partition the size that you want to allocate for win98 and do the same for mandrake.

Basically you could install mandrake on that point, then install win98. However, windo$ do automatically a fdisk/mbr on install (to remove any other boot loader) and unless you would have created a mandrake boot disk, you wouldn't be able to run it.

So what I do recommend to do:

Do the partionning, then stop the installation (without finishing it). do the install of win98, and finally install mandrake.

Still no go. I cannot yet get win98 on.

I do not have a floppy on the machine so have only the win98 and Mandrake discs to work with.

I did as suggested do a partial windows on 10Gigs of 80 Gig disk, as suggested and used the Win 98 boot disc. This found the empty part of the disk was detected as bad sectors and went to scan disk after ages it then said leaving setup until fixed.

I then partioned through Man Wizard the whole disk as win. Trying again to load win98 it would format the disk then leave saying disk fault. This happens even if you use the fdisk /mbr first from the win98 c: prompt, then reboot with the win98 startup disc.

I can load the Mandrake back onto the disk, but still cannot load the win 98.

Any ideas how to clean the disk to the position before I loaded Mandrake? I feel the fdisk /mbr is not sufficient as the error appears to be in the mbr.

what kind of windows Fat partition did you select in diskdrake? FAT16 or 32?

You could try to let the whole disk partition free. then boot whin win98 and create a partition with the DOS Fdisk (don't give the whole space, resizing FAT partition is still hazardous).

It should work. If it doesn't... then it might be a hard drive or an IDE issue (quite rare indeed)
