ctl-alt-f8 thru f10 give nothing

I used ctrl-alt-F8 thru F10 on RH9 and SuSE8.2 to switch to other graphical logins, but it does not work in mdk9.1. All I get is a flashing rectangular cursor, no prompt, no background or graphics of any kind, just a black screen with a flashing cursor. Do I need to edit a config file to access these other GUI sessions?

One way to start multiple graphical sessions is to go to a text console with ctrl-alt-f1-6, login and then start X with
startx -- :1
for a session on ctrl-alt-f8
startx -- :2 for ctrl-alt-f9, etc.

I don't know if there is a way to have multiple graphical logins in mandrake.

yeah I was trying exactly that, but didn't konw the command to get it to go to a different X server, it kept erroring out saying 0 was already taken when I tried startx. :) So what I am saying is yeah that was EXACTLY what I was looing for. Thanx brother!
