boot from floppy
I want to boot Mandrake 9.1 from a floppy instead of from the hard drive. How do I make a boot floppy? (not to install it but bootup after install) Install from CD did not ask me if I wanted to make a boot disk.

In Mandrake, you can use DrakFloppy in order to make a Linux boot disk.

The problem is -- I can't get into Mandrake. When my system rebooted after installation all that came up was:
07 07 07 07 07 07 (and many more) then it asked me to press f1 to try booting again. It fouled up my WinXP boot record too. I had to reinstall windows to get it to work. |
lilo errors
http://www.ipcop.org/1.3.0/en/instal...LO-errors.html BTW for future reference to repair the MBR in case this happens again all you need to do is boot using the XP CD to recovery mode and run the program fixmbr. You can try running the MDK 1st install floppy and select rescue mode. Then try reloading the bootloader. If that works the you can create a boot floppy using the mkbootdisk command. mkbootdisk <kernel> The command uname -a will display the kernel. |
Thanks, finally figured it out. Just about pulled all my hair out though.
