Mageia Website Offline?

I have been unable to visit the Mageia website for the past two days.

Also, running urpmi --auto-update has failed with no results whatsoever. The command just hangs until I do CTRL-C. I can ping the web address.

Is it just me or is something going on that I don't know about?

astrogeek 10-05-2023 10:43 PM

I seem unable to reach it as well.

Same results, can ping but no response to web requests...

Hope it is just a temporary error of some sort...

Distrowatch page says it was updated today but has nothing I can see about the site being down.

From Distrowatch page none of the main links connect - Forums, Downloads, etc.

The same here - Poland.

Same here... I am sure they will fix it ...

Most of mageia.org temporarily down
Posted on October 3, 2023 by marja

Since a little over two hours ago, most of our servers can no longer be reached.
The issue is under investigation and we hope to have all of our servers back online soon.

Update: One of our sysadmins explained that our servers which can no longer be reached, are the ones in Marseille.

Update2: The temperature in the data center had risen too much after a problem with the electricity. Someone from MarsNet in Marseille is willing to try to start our servers, when checking theirs in the same data center, tomorrow morning.

Update 3, 0ctober 4, 10:25 UTC: The cooling system in the data center is broken and will be repaired. No attempt has been made to restart our servers, because it is still too hot for them to be able to function well.

Update 4, 0ctober 5, 09:04 UTC: The two broken cooling systems will be fixed today.
Trebot’s suggestion to temporarily redirect calls to http://www.mageia.org to this blog entry is a good one. When one of our sysadmins can free himself from his paid job (remember we are all volunteers), he will look into it. Of course, if the cooling systems are already repaired by then, then restarting our servers gets priority.

Update 5, October 6, 09:18 UTC: The cooling systems should to be good now. The next step is for a sysadmin to travel to Marseille to restart our servers.

Update 6, October 6, 10:05 UTC: It is expected that up to two more days are needed for recovery.

Thanks, Kenhelm. I just found the same update.

As I type this, the update servers still seem to be down, but it's nice to know that Mageia is getting back on line.

frankbell 10-14-2023 08:58 PM

As a follow-up, has anyone yet managed to run an update since the outage?

mackowiakp 10-14-2023 09:57 PM

For me works !

frankbell 10-15-2023 09:15 PM

Thanks for the response, but that's not what I wanted to hear, because it means I've got put my thinking cap on.:(

I get the following:

Code:

# urpmi --auto-update
mirror list not found
Could not find a mirror from mirrorlist $MIRRORLIST

I get a similar message when I try to update using drakconf.

I'll start looking into this tomorrow.

mackowiakp 10-15-2023 09:50 PM

Everything works fine for me. I did not change anything in the media configuration after the server failure.

Code:

[root@Piotr ~]# urpmi --auto-update

Thanks.

I didn't change anything in my config either.

This machine's been running Mageia since v. 7. I want to keep it that way.

curl -LI https://www.mageia.org/en/
HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Date: Mon, 16 Oct 2023 12:34:23 GMT
Server: Apache
Content-Type: text/html; charset=UTF-8

It's at: 163.172.148.228 from the DNS that I am using.

You add any firewall rules recently?
Code:

If you can't get to that page...Here.

Maybe that will tell you something.

Thanks for the suggestions, teckk.

I have been able to visit the website since they got it back on line, and I've made no changes to anything as regards firewall rules and the like.

Hopefully in the next day or so I'll get a chance to try to figure out why I'm getting the mirrorlist error I mentioned above. Everything is working except updates and I just haven't had the time (or mental energy) to tackle it yet.
