Mageia v. 6-->v. 7
 

My Mageia v. 6 notified me that it was EOL today, so I did the online upgrade to v. 7. I was too lazy to move the computer to a location where I could plug in an ethernet cable, so I did this via wireless.



It seems to have gone flawlessly (I say "seems" because the applications I use regularly are working just fine, but I haven't looked in every nook and cranny yet, but all the signs are propitious).

All my 6 to 7 upgrades went well, except for TDM users:

I took a look at TDE once. It is a nice piece of work, but I was somewhat nonplussed by the fact that many of the default applications had not been updated in years.

That's the nice thing about it. TDE's devs put a very low priority on fixing what ain't broke. :D If you're alluding to Konq as a web browser, even KDE couldn't muster the resources to compete after Apple forked its engine eons ago. Konq still makes many happy as a file manager. Whatever baseapps TDE has that people don't like are mostly replaceable by various other FOSS apps or utilities provided by the distro it sits on, e.g. Firefox, Chromium, LibreOffice, Gimp. TDE is svelte, great for those still using 32bit PCs with the remaining distros providing that arch.

I was referring to KDE v. 3 programs such as text editors, terminals, and the like.

But if they aren't broke and don't present security flaws, you are quite correct--they don't need updating for the sake of updating. I still use Dia from time to time. It hasn't been updated in a decade or so, but works just fine.
