Why is General now showing only one page of threads?
Is this in order to tame the forum?

You've probably got your "Display Options" (underneath thread list) set to a value that only occupies one page?
Change it to (e.g.) "Last 100 days" and there are 80 discussions in that time period, which occupies two pages. |
I'm seeing the full amount, 471 pages, all the way back to 2000.

The display option says "One month" but that should be more than one page! And it only seems to affect General. Some other sub-forums that I tried look perfectly normal with a page guide at the top of the display and another at the bottom, so that you can navigate. In the General forum, those guides have disappeared.
PS: If I display a multi-page thread in General, the navigation guides reappear. |

Forum thread page size is 50 threads - this is not the same as a thread's posts-per-page setting (which is configurable between 5 and 50). Since "Last Month" is only 32 threads, it fits on one page, whilst the 80 threads of "Last 100 days" is 50+30 so two pages. Quote:

OK but why do all the other forums show normal page navigation guides top and bottom, while General suddenly does not? Without those guides, there is no way of specifying that I want to see the next page. Single-post display is still normal, i.e. when there are multiple pages, there is a guide.

I don't know if/why General suddenly changed - perhaps either the threads per page changed or its default cutoff changed.
Anyhow, I guess you read my previous post before the edit - if you go change that setting you can set it to all threads for all forums. |
Got it! Thank you, Peter. I was on "Use Forum Default" and seemingly, General has a different default from the technical forums. But why it changed for me, I have no idea. I don't remember editing my options recently. I've set it to "100 days" now and can see the older posts again. Actually there has been a lot less activity in the General Forum recently and that probably complicated my perception of things.
