Sorry you have been blocked

This may not be the right forum, but I don't see a HeyWTF! forum ...

I just attempted to submit a thread and got the message, "Sorry you have been blocked / You are unable to access linuxquestions.org". This, just moments after submitting a reply to a previous thread.

I've been posting on LQ since 2008 and this is the first time this has happened. The IP I was connecting from was 184.57.48.3. Why was I blocked? More importantly, how can I get unblocked.

teckk 05-22-2022 04:13 PM

Did you post something in code tags that cloudflare does not like? There is a thread on that. More than one.

I had a couple of snippets of .jsp code. I've removed those and tried to re-post and it worked. I'll review your links to see if I can figure out what it didn't like. I've posted .jsp snippets in a code block for year and never had this happen! I guess just that posting was block and not me overall for everything on LQ. It would have been nice if the error page had a bit more info on why I, or rather that specific post, was blocked, especially if it just had something to do with a verboten content in a code block.

Thanks for pointing me it the right direction.

BTW - I used to get emailed notices when someone posted to my thread. On several occasions in the past this just stopped (as it has for the past several months). When I complained in some forum (I forget which) it just started working again. Any idea on this?

ondoho 05-23-2022 12:50 AM

Yep, there's plenty of complaints about this one already.
And I'm joining in with each and every one.
Somehow I doubt that Clownflare cannot be configured properly wrt code snippets, but who am I to know...

Yup, If your email server kicks back a mail, then then forum stops sending. Go into your LQ settings and re enable it.

I put a couple of underscores before the offending code that cloudflare does not like. And tell the forum, remove the underscores. Or replace __ with <>

Code:

__ls -a
__nc <something>
__script__something here__/script__

teckk 05-23-2022 06:55 AM

That does work, may not be ideal, but allows one to post. From this pages source.
Code:

__script__
 (function(h,o,u,n,d) {
  h=h[d]=h[d]||{q:[],onReady:function(c){h.q.push(c)}}
  d=o.createElement(u);d.async=1;d.src=n
  n=o.getElementsByTagName(u)[0];n.parentNode.insertBefore(d,n)
})(window,document,'script','https://www.datadoghq-browser-agent.com/datadog-rum.js','DD_RUM')
  DD_RUM.onReady(function() {
    DD_RUM.init({
      clientToken: 'pubdfe3d3f97883d30bebd7d86fb4401f1d',
      applicationId: '86c29c7b-d36b-44bb-a819-211494f32b57',
      site: 'datadoghq.com',
      service: 'LQ',
      sampleRate: 100,
      trackInteractions: true,
    })
  })
__/script__

Old noscript 5.1.9 extension can block cdnjs.cloudflare.com
Noticed that cloudflare did redirect to a page citing a host problem with LQ at one point, but since I've blocked its cdnjs it's mostly working fine.
I'd support anything that gets rid of spam, however. Even a custom captcha presenting a considerable challenge.

ondoho 05-23-2022 12:23 PM

^ Yes, other addons can also do that.
Means I cannot post if cloudflare doesn't like it - or I do enable javascript. I ususally don't though.
And what about those terminal web browser or dillo users?

Nobody likes spam, but this is ridiculous.
Malicious code execution in forum posts???
Cloudflare is basically telling jeremy "We don't think you configured your server properly, we will keep everything suspicious from you!"

Unfortunately it's not so easy.
I recently wanted to share a longish conky lua script, and got the same clownflare page.
There was no "ls" in it. No <tags> either.
What was the offending code? IDK.

ondoho 06-08-2022 12:22 PM

This is getting ridiculous. A simple fix like prefixing it with an underscore doesn't help either.
Worst thing, I simply don't see the point.
Plenty of forums (including ones based on the same software as LQ) post code snippets all the time, without any harm.
It doesn't strike me as a viable attack vector.

Yes, this one also comes down to clownflare's code blocking.

It happened again:

I couldn't even post that simple command without code tags, or in the middle of a sentence, or starting with underscores.

Whilst "uname --all" (the longform of that option) is accepted with no problems, which highlights again the insanity of these filters.

rknichols 06-22-2022 08:41 AM

Just testing "uname -a" here. Hmmm...

Some message flashed up about "Checking your browser..", and I see a "Sorry you have been blocked" in my page history, but it posted.

Cloudflare/Google probably did some javascript voodoo so you didn't have to check a captcha.
I, OTOH, disable js by default.
