Quick reply toolbar doesn't have a code button. It should.
As per title.
I was unsurprised to find this has been requested twice before, in 2015 and 2017. https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/lq-suggestions-and-feedback-7/code-button-quick-edit-reply-toolbar-4175535758 https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/lq-suggestions-and-feedback-7/code-button-in-quick-reply-toolbar-4175606776 Both times it was promised "after the next major code update", but toggling a toolbar button is a trivial change that makes it easier for new users, so why wait? |
While I agree, I'm also well aware that the VB 3.X version used on this site is many years outdated/obsolete and has not been supported since 2017. I wouldn't expect ANY upgrades/enhancements unless the core VB software is updated or changed. Just trying to be realistic. :foot:
|
That's not being realistic. The lack of v3 development by vBulletin's parent company is irrelevant: this is not an upgrade/enhancement request.
Again, adding a code button to the quick reply toolbar is a simple task. It does not require waiting on a core upgrade. |
You're kinda right.
Adding a code button (or anything for that matter) can always be done if you can code in PHP/HTML/JS and don't need help with it. However, the VBulletin modifications forum that contains instructions on how to do it requires a valid VB3 subscription, which no one is going to get these days because it's past its end of life. If this addition didn't happen in 2015 or 2017 when valid VB3 licenses were still a thing, then it's far less likely to happen now. That's all I'm saying. |
There are a number of reasons why it may not have happened previously which do not prevent it from happening now.
It is not a complex esoteric ritual; it does not require a subscription, nor any real coding ability. |
[ code ] [ /code ] minus the spaces in between the center and the brackets. For what its worth though this is a pain in the ass on a phone i guess. It's just automatic at this point for me. I don't use the code button anywhere else either.

:|
I never use the code button, I am not asking for myself, nor do I need to be told how to type
..
tags! The idea is it to make it easier for new users - those unaware of bbode or inexperienced with it - who will often put their code inside quote blocks, or use bold, or change colour - because they realize that demarcating code helps, but are unaware there is a dedicated option which actually preserves the formatting. |
