Wink Using Linux for my personal use

Hi all, I have been using Linux for my personal use at home, mainly Debian. But I am using Windows 10/11 at my workplace.

I am open to try different distros as long as it can work well on my laptop (2.5Ghz, 4Gb RAM), hehe... The desktop environment that works well with this laptop would be XFCE, LxQt or LxDE, but I still prefer XFCE.

Welcome to the forum! If you are curious, give these Arch based distros a try:
Mabox Linux----------Openbox window manager
EndeavourOS----------your choice of desktops or window managers
ArchBang-------------Openbox window manager

Independent distros:
PCLinuxOS----------your choice of desktops or window managers. Very good choice in my opinion.
Void---------------Xfce desktop and a bit more advanced distro. Very lean on resource usuage.

I have all of the above multibooted on my main use laptop for everyday use and am pleased with them all.

Kind of stuck trying a live media like live usb/cd/dvd. Usually they pick up the swap file on hard drive too.

Distrowatch used to have a minimal list.

I used like Slitaz.

Many here say Antix.

Can't go wrong with any of the UBuntu flavors. I've been using (K)Ubuntu now for a couple years and see no reason to distro hop away from it. Before KUbuntu, there was LUbuntu, and before that Mint. Just upgraded my R&D box to KUbuntu 24.04 LTS which went quick, no problems encountered. That said, I also always have a VM with latest Fedora (nice when you want to be on the bleeding edge of latest and greatest). Just upgraded it to Fedora 40.

Bottom line, find one that fits your work flow. Not hard to install new distros or try different DEs that meet your expectations.

KDE is a lot more efficient than it used to be: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrvJOXypAbk

Welcome aboard.

(Maybe try Devuan/XFCE or Void/XFCE some time.)
