Webcam help in later Linux distros

Posted 07-19-2010 at 02:39 PM by Peepaw07

When installing a uvcvideo compliant webcam with a built-in mic (i.e. Logitech Webcam Pro 9000) in recent Linux distros, you may encounter an issue with pulseaudio and the built-in mic. If using the webcam with Skype, Skype will automatically select Pulseaudio for all Sound Options. A solution for OpenSuse 11.1 is to uninstall pulseaudio, rename config.xml in home/yourname/.skype/yourskypename/, then reboot your machine. Upon starting Skype, select Options, Sound, and set the mic to the usb designation for the webcam, and leave the other options set to Default. This allows Skype, as well as other applications, to use the mic.
