Zimbra Mail Server

Hi,
I have just installed zimbra Collaboration Suite 6.0 open source edition on CentOS 5.3 to configure it as email server to send and receive mails over the Internet.
But the problem is that whenever I send mails to users on outside domains like yahoo, gmail, rediffmail, the mails are going to spam folder instead of Inbox.
Our dns is hosted my ipower.com and they don't support PTR records, as a result there is no reverse lookup for our public IP address whereas "nslookup `hostname`" command is showing the correct FQDN and public IP address.
Could you please tell me why the outgoing mails are going to spam folder and how can I resolve the problem.
I have already configured zimbra to work on https using the command: "zmtlsctl redirect"

Thanks in advance.

Maybe a SPF record can help out out. Depending on your DNS server you can either use a SPF RR itself or use a TXT record.
SPF = Sender Policy Framework.. Something like this. Google is happy to help you out

If you're going to use a mail server you really do need to have a reverse ptr record as a lot of servers will reject mail from a server that doesn't have RDNS. You need to speak to your ISP to get them to set-up a reverse DNS record for your IP address. You might want to consider moving your DNS records to a hosted service such as easyDNS.com (I have no connection to them other than as a happy user), it's not free but is reasonably priced and you get full control over all your DNS records.

You should check the email that's been sent to yahoo etc. to see why it's been placed in the spam folder.

That's not really relevant to this problem.

As also mentioned above, creating SPF records will help you deliver mail but it's not the only thing you need to do. You might also want to visit the Zimbra forums, there's several threads there that cover the problem of sending mail to yahoo/gmail accounts and for what it's worth my Zimbra server has no problem delivering mail to those type of email accounts.

dont panic if the mail you just setup online going to yahoo or gmail
junk/spam folder , this is normal, this will be settle by next few week or month or year

this can make fast, go to yahoo or gmail or others and create your account or asking your email freind who currently have many email
send them the mail from your domain , tell them to mark as not spam or junk , this will help their mail server to accept mail from your domain

how ever if your provider cannot make revers that ip
(regardless what revers but at least revers)
you will have long way to settle this issue

other thing can make fast configure the SPF as mentioned by others before

cheers

Zimbra Mail Server

Hi,
Do I need to purchase ssl certificate for my personal email server from CA like VeriSign, Thawte or a self signed one is sufficient. I want to use this mail server to send and receive mails over the Internet.

Thanks,
Pankaj Garg

routers 02-02-2010 02:37 AM

not necessary for you to get that CA , use self sign would do

I tried everything I knew about. I installed my own DNS server for zimbra mail server including spf record, DKIM with dkim-milter, MX record, and reverse DNS.Outgoing mail from our mail server are going to Inbox folder on gmail and rediffmail, but on hot mail and yahoo mail they are going to spam.
Can anyone please tell me what is the problem? I also used following site to perform various mail server test but couldn't figure out anything suspicious except email header:

Following is the full header of email that went to spam folder on yahoo:

what you have to do now is keep sending email to your freind who use
hotmail and yahoo mail tell them to mark your mail as not spam

and keep sending between each , this way is the fast way to settle your problem
please give at least one week time to solve this issue , normaly will be ok after that
