Xboard problem - gnuchessx
For some reason, the network admin's on my Varsity LAN didn't install xboard :( so when I was bored :o and felt like playing chess, it wasn't there
So I downloaded xboard-4.2.6.tar.gz and did the following commands: tar zxvf cd xboard-4.2.6 ./configure make Then when I run xboard (./xboard) the following error messages come up: -->Failed to start first chess program gnuchessx on localhost: gnuchessx: No such file or directory -->Error writing to first chess program: Broken pipe gnuchess is on the computer, but gnuchessx isn't. I would play using gnuchess, but i reaaallly prefer a graphical chessboard with point and click and all the other nice features that show off my laziness. Please can someone help me fix this. I don't have root privelages as it is my Varsity's LAN, but I don't think that should stop me from being able to compile and run xboard. |
gnuchessx is the chess engine for gnuchess, and it should be contained in the standard gnuchess rpm
http://rpmseek.com/rpm-pl/gnuchess.h...ssx:FN:0:0:0:0 http://rpmseek.com/rpm-pl/chess.html...ssx:FN:0:0:0:0 anyway try this way too ./xboard -fcp chess before trying any of the above. |
xboard is a front end for gnu chess redhat 9 has it look in the cd s

I got xboard working using ./xboard -fpc gnuchess, now how can I play a two player game?
|
I think that you can do that by going into the edit mode.

Yup... Edit mode allows two player game! Thanks rch
