updating from CUPS 1.1.9 to CUPS 1.2.10 conflicts with programs not installed.

Hi all,
I'm trying to install CUPS1.2.10. When i run the rpm -U I get the following error

rpm -U cups-1.2.10-linux-2.6-x86_64.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
lpd conflicts with cups-1.2.10-0.x86_64
lpr conflicts with cups-1.2.10-0.x86_64
LPRng conflicts with cups-1.2.10-0.x86_64

when i look for lpd, lpr or LPRng in RPM they are not installed. Why would it complain about packages that are not installed?

this is the current installed package

rpm -q cups
cups-1.1.22-0.rc1.9.11

another quick question. How do i decide which version to install. I have the two versions on my server
cups-1.2.10-linux-2.6-intel.rpm
and
cups-1.2.10-linux-2.6-x86_64.rpm

Is there a way to check which version is approprate?

thanks

What Linux distro are you using (it helps if you put it in your profile) and where did you get the cups 1.2.x rpm?

Is the cups rpm you downloaded meant for your distro? If not, then this is why you are having package conflicts.

yes its for redhat. I bought this book http://www.easysw.com/cups/book.php because i wanted to learn more about cups. They have redhat RPM's on the CD. I followed all of their instructions and I keep getting this error. I've done a rpm -qa out ot a file and looked at the packages. The old cups 1.1 is still there but nothing that I see that would conflict. I can post up the packages file if you think it would help.
