Question Terminal suddenly inoperative

Hello everyone. Stock Lenovo T520 running stock Mint 21.3 Mate. I have used several versions of Mint Mate on the machine with zero issues. Its been running flawlessly in fact.
I don't use terminal all that much, haven't needed it. Its never had an issue before. I went to use it a couple days ago, it is unresponsive. No cursor and the $ is missing. I've tried a few reset commands, no joy. I don't have a clue what happened. Otherwise everything I ever use works fine. Thanks ahead of time.

Hard to say what is wrong. Similar Mint threads that may be of value...

What terminal do you use - gnome-terminal? There are many terminal programs available, try a different one - xterm, termit, kitty, konsole, kgx, etc, etc.

Ty @ ferrari. LVM do I just delete the old one? It's what came with 21.3 in stock form. Which one would you suggest for a newbie? Thanks.

There is no reason to delete/remove the default terminal, just install another. The link below discusses various terminals available in Linux.

Installed gnome terminal from the software repository. How do I add it to the panel? I dont see it anywhere in the applications listing.

Check the site at the link below, specifically post 3 which explains it using Mint Mate.

Checked post 3. Right click panel, no terminal is listed. The only terminal listed in the applications is the one that doesn't work, I cannot find Gnome terminal anywhere except the software manager. I can open it there, I don't see anything to drop and drag.

The link I posted indicates the software should show in the Mint Menu, a tab/button on the lower left of the Desktop. Just guessing on that as I've never used Mint. From the Menu, you are supposed to be able to see software installed from repositories where you right click on the software name and then select add to panel. If you don't see that, you need to wait for someone who actually uses Mint and continue your online search.

Were the links to the Mint forums in post 2 not helpful?
