Syslog Server
I working on a project for my current employer that is a server where all 1400 routers, and switches report syslog information to a single redundant system. Basically I was wondering if anyone has done this, and what software they utilized. We are using Redhat AS cluster server with and HP SAN for the storage.
I would like the system to store a separate file for each router or switch. Which can be correlated with either a web page viewing mechanism or application. A few people recommended an application called Sawmill, but that software package is just too expensive for our budget. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. |
You can check out nagios at www.nagios.org. It is freeware for monitoring systems and has a lot of prebuilt scripts. You can also build your own scripts if none of the prebuilt ones do what you need. It has a built in Web Page for monitoring servers. We use it here to monitor almost everything (Unix, Linux, Windows, Switches, Air Handlers).
