problem: autoinstall not set in dkms.conf
After an update, my Sunplus webcam stopped working. I redownloaded an RPM package for a dkms-ready spca5xx module. (the driver module this camera has always used successfully), successfully added it to the dkms tree, but I get a message during boot at the point where dkms is to be loaded and I get a message that says "Autoinstall not set in dkms.conf"
Can anyone give me an idea on how to change this. I've found the dkms.conf file in /usr/src/spca5xx-0.57.11 folder but have no idea as to what I need to add to make this work Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Keithk2 |

I hardly believe your system uses that conf file in the src directory. Conf files in use reside in /etc. |
problem self-resolved
Not sure what happened but after a couple more boot-ups, I saw the camera light flicker on and off as it used to do during the boot process and it's working again.
I agree that most conf files are usually found in /etc but I've also been told that dkms relies on source and conf files found under the usr/src/xxxx directory where I've found a folder there for each of the driver modules loaded during boo. So, since everything works, I'll just assume that they're where dkms wants them. Not a very tech-savvy sounding observation but aas long as everything works.... BTW I also discovered that the cam is actually using gspca 1.00.18-3mdv for the cam so perhaps that was a factor as well. Thanks for the time you took to help me out. All of you here are a big help as I get under the hood of my Linux box. All success Keith |
