Need a little hint about ubuntu fat clients in contrast to thin clients

Hello everyone,
I have read about thin clients and its been a while now. I ve configured a fat client working environment and everythings running well. One question though, The server is running Xubuntu 14.04 ltsp. When i configured thin client, the same xubuntu appeared. makes sense. All the packages installed in the server were getting reflected in the client. Makes sense too. But in the fat client concept, The installed image is Ubuntu-desktop and not xubuntu. The packages on the server are not visible on the client.

1)Does this mean for Fat clients, everything has to be set up locally for each and every client?

2)And if a different Ubuntu distro is built for the clients, is there a way to change it to an ubuntu distro of my choice? Or i have to agree to the default image?

3)And also, if everything has to be set up locally, clients require admin privileges. How do i do that? If I give all the privileges to the client, does it destroy the essence of ltsp, i.e centralized management?

Hoping for some advice on this. Thanks.
