Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(3,2)

I have just got done installing Knoppix on a computer and when I reboot the computer I get so far as:

root (hd0,1)
File system type is reiserfs, partition type 0x83
kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/hda2 ro ### isk_size=100000 init=/etc/init lang
=us apm=power-off nomce quiet vga=791
[Linux-bzImage, setup=0x1c00, size=0x17c4f5]
savedefault
boot
You passed an undefined mode number.
Press <RETURN> to see video modes available, <SPACE> to continue or wait 30 secs

Uncompressing Linux... Ok, booting the kernel.
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(3,2)

sorry i was going to sugest a bunch of stuff but then i realized it's just guessing till we know the partition setup

either the grub root= stuff is wrong or i guess your kernel might not contain the driver for your hard drive ?
