Can not build latest test10 kernal.

error reads

Makefile:183: arch/i386/Makefile:
No such file or directory
make: *** No rule to make target
arch/i386/Makefile .stop

I looked and indeed their is no arch/i386/Makefile
in the uncompressed kernal.

What can I do, need help urgently...

It appears you don't have the complete package. Maybe your download was interrupted. Did you get any errors when you uncompressed and untar'ed it? What is the size of your kernel package you downloaded. Compare this with the size of the one on the site where you're getting it. Check http://www.kernel.org if you're locating it somewhere else.

Hi, I was looking at your problem and I thought that if you are just missing the one file then you could just ftp to ftp.kernel.org (using a ftp program), and then navigate the folders to download the file you require, instead of just downloading the whole Kernel.

Its a thought.

Of course downloading one file at a time might work. I suggested the whole package because it wasn't complete. I would think it might be very problematic for a new user to try to build a package. To insure getting the whole package might solve problems before they come to be.
Actually I should leave the "new user" out of this message because reviewing the post, the person didn't say they were new. I believe this would be best for most users.

Larry James, I didn't mean install individula packages, but on websites you have to download the contents from a folder. However, after looking at ftp.kernel.org it appears that you download the whole Kernel zipped up, so it would be extremely hard to pin point the exact file!

I would go with your suggestion and check the download (if it was), and/or download the source again.
