How to get Tor Browser to start in Ubuntu?

1 Attachment(s)
I am getting this message beginning "Tor exited during startup.":

Attachment 42628

Someone having the same problem in Windows on StackExchange:

I use another distro family using the Ubuntu repositories where Tor Browser runs easily.

Why is Ubuntu fussy?

it is not ubuntu, but your setup. It is written: until you fix that issue it won't work

I agree with your recommendation & boot so many different versions I'll have to take note next time.

I probably tried two. The 1st was a standalone version. The second was from the repositories.

The Ubuntu process is radically different than a Tor site version that runs in a distro out-of-the-box. I do not know why they do this.

The browser window opens irregularly, wider than screen length before the error.

Thus far I have not gotten Tor to run in Ubuntu.

JASlinux 03-13-2024 09:06 PM

Tor is running. I suspect a Tor network error or configuration glitch on my system.

jadaja 03-18-2024 04:10 PM

what i have to do is open a terminal in the tor folder/directory then run ./start-tor-browser.desktop to run tor. it does updates and such before actually going into tor.

John VV 03-19-2024 05:53 AM

why type in " ./start-tor-browser.desktop "

just double click it .

jadaja 03-19-2024 11:35 PM

for me clicking/double-clicking does nothing, i have to run it from the command line, idky.
