after booting screen goes blank and will not boot in failsafe mode suse 9.1 personal
 

After a kernal update 2/10 I can not load suse9.1 personal. The screen goes dark after boot and freezes up in failsafe mode. Everthing was fine after update,but today 2/11 it will not boot! HELP!!

Screen hangs after boot
 

I've had exactly the same problem after an update on 11 February 2005. Any ideas?

Boot screen works but just hangs when it gets to login; and I can't find a way of running from CD either to run YaST sytem repair.

I am getting this too..
EDIT:
Here's what I did to fix it.

First, I added "init 3" to the Boot Options line when Grub comes up, this stopped X from starting automatically.

I then edited the XF86Config file and switched driver from "nvidia" to "nv". nv is a free alternative to the commercial nvidia driver, which appears to be the culprit here.


That should get you back up
