Sendmail 550 5.1.1 Reject Unknown User
Hello Everyone,
It has been a while since I have posted as there is usually no need to, but this problem is apparently beyond me. Here is the information. The server is running Exim with Webppliance, now just recently like 2 days ago around 7pm the server stopped receiving mail. I was called on a referral. From what I know there has been no upgrades or any changes to the server. Here is the a network tools analysis: ------------------------- 220 springshomes.springshomes.com ESMTP Sendmail 8.13.7/8.13.7; Tue, 27 Jan 2009 20:28:18 -0700 EHLO Network-Tools.com 250-springshomes.springshomes.com Hello network-tools.com [67.222.132.194] (may be forged), pleased to meet you 250-ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES 250-PIPELINING 250-8BITMIME 250-SIZE 5000000 250-DSN 250-AUTH LOGIN PLAIN 250-DELIVERBY 250 HELP VRFY bryan 252 2.5.2 Cannot VRFY user; try RCPT to attempt delivery (or try finger) RSET 250 2.0.0 Reset state EXPN bryan 502 5.7.0 Sorry, we do not allow this operation RSET 250 2.0.0 Reset state MAIL FROM:<admin@Network-Tools.com> 250 2.1.0 <admin@Network-Tools.com>... This does not apply and I have changed it and tested changed back. No luck. I have also messed with the local-host-domains with no luck. I also cant send mail internally or externally so that rules out dns and I believe network tools proves dns is in good shape. Any help would really be appreciated. And I can post anything else that you guys need just let me know. |
The network tool is trying to use the VRFY smtp command which is not supported on that machine.
That does not mean the user does not exist, try using telnet to port 25 to see what is actually going on. |
Okay,
I will give that a shot. If I use say squirrel mail on the server to send mail to someone else on the server, the mail says unknown user. I will telnet in. What commands shall I issue? Thanks, Bryan |
Any word on this.
