Firewall and Antivirus?

hi

back again for helps. can someone recommend a good firewall for linux mint?

would also (if firewall doesn't) like something to check my net traffic for what programs are running and how much bandwidth each is using as well? am considering my connect may be hijacked recently and want to see what is running to detect anything hinky.

also a good antivirus?

thanks...and I assume there are commands being used for them. so commands if possible, or I can find them later.

thanks bunches

maybe this should go into another section? sorry if yes and please move it to the proper one?
thanks

Firewall capability is built into the Linux kernel, but it needs to be configured to work.

I would recommend ufw or gufw as easy to use configuration tools.

This thread has a lot of suggestions for network monitoring https://askubuntu.com/questions/2572...n-the-terminal
Nethogs looks like it might meet your needs.

that's great peoples. got uncomplicated firewall and nethogs and tcptrack and iftop. will have to use it some but the displays look good.

thanks for the links and recommends

also got ClamAV antivirus, but I did read that virii are rare in linux. my main concern is someone hijacking my connection. some recent happening gave rise to that, but I think the problem was not hijacking my connection, but line or modem problems.

those recoms sound like I can monitor what is connecting if I get slow downs just to make sure

guess questions were answered and will do the click so

thanks again...and have a great summer

one thing you could try is opensnitch https://github.com/evilsocket/opensnitch https://github.com/evilsocket/opensnitch/wiki

it is looking promising, i have been playing with it for a day or so.

Thomas Harmon 06-09-2023 05:42 AM

thanks for that opensnitch link. will check it out. I'm a little new to linux and not very adept at commands and understanding too...lol

will take a look at it later. for now the ones I have sound simple enough for me to do.
:)

thanks...appreciate the info
