Need help changing graphical login to regular login

I have Mandrake 9.1 and I need to be able to login as root and I keep getting the graphical login (where you click on a user then it changes the screen and enter the password) and root is not one of my options. Please help??

Well ... you could press
Ctrl+Alt+F1 ....

You could TYPE root instead
of wanting to click it ...

You could login as normal user,
and open a console, and then
do
su -c "init 3"

Cheers,
Tink

no, no... what I mean is when I had first installed linux, I didn't enter in any users during the setup so when it went to the login screen, it gave me a Login and Password field window and I could type any username that I wanted (provided it existed). Now that I have entered a user into the system, I only am allowed to "click" on the user I've added and then I enter the password for that user. My problem is that I had setup a share to a windows domain through the use of samba and winbind and had done all the setup under user "root" and now I can't see any of the data that I have transfered to the linux home drive. I would like to say the exact message that it gives me when it first trys to mount the partition but I don't know where to find any log files (like an event viewer).

My only idea is to login as root and see if I can some how correct the mounting problem. Come to think of it.... not exactly sure how to do that either......

help......?
