minimum system requirements for Redhat 9
Me again....
I've installed Redhat 9 on this computer and its running really really really slow (slower that Win 98!!!!) The machine is a compaq presario laptop, AMD k6 2 450MHz with 96MB ram.... Is this too slow for redhat 9? Whats recommended? How do I get view and remove any packages i've installed, like an msn clone...? cheers |
For a desktop machine running KDE/Gnome, that might be a bit underpowered. I have a RH 9 server running on a PI-133 with 128, and while it's not a race horse it works well as a proxy/firewall.
The control center in KDE can help you adjust the packages you have on the system. Or from the command line you can always do a rpm -q <packagename> to see if something is installed, and a rpm -e <packagename> to remove it. If it is painfully slow, type ps -A at the command line and see what services are running. You don't need to run a lot of services that start by default and shutting them off can yield big performance gains. |
