localhost login, how??

Hi all, yesterday i installed Mandrake on my pc and now have a triple boot system. All seemed to go well, i would boot into linux and away i'd go. But after two returns to linux it now asks me to login, which i do, then password, which i give, and then i get the following: [name@localhost Name]$. What do i have to type or do after that to start the linux progam? Otherwise i cannot get into the linux OS. Many thanks:study: Where its written name , my name appears which i put in during the install. Again thanks.

you ARE in linux, you just haven't had X start for some reason.... ahh come on admit it, you've been a fiddlin'!

type startx to load X, and assuming that does work then you'll probably want to change your initlevel back to 5, as i'd assume it's been changed to 3 (5 = start with X, 3 = normal start)

go to mandrake control centre | boot | boot config and select Launch teh X-window system at start.

if that doesn't work, manually edit the /etc/inittab file and change the 3 to a 5 in the line that says:

id:3:initdefault:

Hi again, did as you said, typed startx and fired up KDE. Found that file/etc/inittab which as you said was at 3. When i changed it to 5, i was told i did not have write permission!, whatever that is. Any help on that one....thanks:study:
