the above is one of the moast promicing for audio developments...
if your really intrested in music production the aGNUla project is avalible for the Debian distrobution.... latency (the 'one second delay' you were speeking about) should be a LOT lower with linux.

I can read/write in Japanese, and even see some menues in Japanese.
I use kinput2 + jserver.

Now when I try to import my address book (CSV), neither KMail nor Thunderbird will read the Japanese names. I am quite pest off, althouhg very thick on trying to set it up correctly at last.
Any help?

Actually, I don't think I have the solution for you, but if you wish,
you could try this and tell us what you get...

Execute these commands:
export LANG=ja_JP.eucJP
export LC_MESSAGES=ja_JP.eucJP
export LC_CTYPE=ja_JP.eucJP
export XMODIFIERS=@im=kinput2 (useless here, I suppose)
kinput2 -xim -kinput -canna & (useless here, I suppose)
and then start kmail or thunderbird and try again...
At least it shouldn't do any harm... :rolleyes:

In fact I'm wondering if kmail or thunderbird support importing an address book containing japanese characters.
Maybe you should ask the kmail and the thunderbird teams and see what they say about it. Maybe they have mailing-lists for japanese speaking users?

Unfortunately it did not help. However, I am not sure if my cannaserver is working. I installed it without errors, but I don't know yet how to make it work.

I founf out that the bug of the black pad was caused by some KDE themes, such as Keramic etc. Although I use fluxbox, KMail appears in it's KDE's look-and-feel. Some themes, strangely, do not work well with kinput2+jserver.

We here use it with success (not me personaly):
- to input some japanese text into OpenOffice.org (oocalc as well as oowriter)
- to input some japanese text into mozilla-thunderbird

To make it work, we have the appriopriate environment variable set by a script

( export LANG=ja_JP.eucJP
export LC_MESSAGES=ja_JP.eucJP
export LC_CTYPE=ja_JP.eucJP
export XMODIFIERS=@im=kinput2 )

and then we start the kanna input server using

( kinput2 -xim -kinput -canna & ).

To actually use it, we press SHIFT+SPACE to switch from normal input mode to kanna input mode, etc.

hi there i:m new to suse ive installed japanese and now ican write in it :D
but there is a problem when i want to look for somthing on net like google.com it seems it do not support japnese
or i have wrong fonts :(
