Wow I am so confused, I have read some instructions on "after the installation of Linux and then you type this, that and the other,"

I can easily get onto the bluish screen after typing my password and then I have ascreen and my mouse, but how do I start typing in commands, I had a terminal up once and after trying to floolw a book I kept getting 'wrong or no directory'

I am a complete beginner, totally use to the windows look and in the old days enjoyed well loved DOS commands but really how can I start to type and where do I do it.

PLease help someone

Are you in a graphical interface or a text screeen prompt? If you're in a graphical interface look for one of the options to bring up a terminal window. The icon will most likely look like a terminal.
Once you're in a terminal screen, type in your commands at the flashing prompt, the say way you typed commands in DOS.
