Graphical mode problem

Hello all,
I'm new to using Linux and I have encountered a problem during installation of Red Hat, hope u could help me.
When I install Red Hat it doesn't enter graphical mode but only to the text based mode installed, what i mean when it doesn't enter is that my monitor turns black when it tries to load it (it seems that the computershow activity but without display - like when i hit ALT-CTRL-DEL it does reboot ok)
now, if I install Red Hat in a text based installation, the whole process completes just fine and successfully after that the system boots and it signals that everyrhing is --OK-- but after that the graphical environment doesn't load and what happens is that the monitor just goes black again and it seems that it doesn't display nothing although linux is actually running in the back ground.
I have tried to install 2 more times since unsuccessfully, I tried to change my monitor (I use AOC 9K+) -didn't help. I have an Nvidia Geoforce FX5200 Video card on a KT4AV Mobo and AMD 2400 Athlon Processor
I tried to use some preboot commands to fix the problem like: linux lowers or linux resolution=800x600 etc. or linux nofb or linux noprobe all unsuccessfully...
Maybe u can help me...
thank u guys

try choosing a vesa card... should get you a graphical login... then you can download the nvidia drivers

Well.. it does identify my graphical as a vesa by default...
it does ask me to specify the vendor at the end of the installation and I do and the problem continues.
the graphical problem is prior to the part where I have to choose a card driver. but I'll try it. thanks.
