Driver help. Intel integrated graphics card

so I finally got rid of windows and (after some struggles with a faulty CD burn) installed Ubuntu. So far its fantastic to work with, except...

It doesnt seem to recognize my wee graphics card (Intel 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV ) and so, the resolution is quite stuck at 640x480.

Im not at all sure where to locate linux drivers that work with ubuntu, and I couldnt find a way to automatically update it last night, so thus I turn to the great masses of the internet.. or well.. this forum.

Help ?

I'd guess the driver should be i810 in both XOrg and XFree86, but your problem may also be cause by insufficient video RAM that is shared by the BIOS. Try to find this BIOS setting and share more RAM for the graphics card.

Hi,

You have an onboard Intel graphics device. Its driver is i810.

These drivers may as well be present with the base install you get on the CD's. However you can also download and install them.

Check out the Intel site for these drivers.

Here try out this link :

Graphics Drivers and Linux* Support

Read whatever there is to read on the page and then click on the Download Finder link to download the driver. If read all the instructions properly I guess there should not be any problems with installing the drivers and also do not forget editing your xorg/xf86 file after installing the drivers.

Try this out and post back the results.

Hope this helps.

Bonus! I figured out how to make it work. Just had to put the screen specs into the configuration file. THis is a bit tricky to work with, after being used to winblows and the old amiga workbench ;)

Thanks a lot guys
