Can only use command line interface!
When I boot up my Linux, things start failing to start up. The list is:
sendmail Canna Server Service ATD Canna Server says that it is already open, and that if I am sure that it isn't, I should enter "rm /tmp/.iroha_unix/IROHA". So it continues on to the login screen, except that the login screen is in the command line, and when I login, it remains in the command line. Afterwards, my brother told me he moved some files from windows to linux using LTools, and he 'may' have changed some permissions. Could that be a problem? |
Hi,
Try typing this after login: Code:
startx Did you or your brother connect to the linuxbox using the root login? If not, then you shouldnt be able to cause critical damage to your system. Sincerely, Jorgen |
Thanks for your reply,
The 'startx' command wrote some things really quickly, but then my monitor goes blank, and says "No Signal". After a few seconds, the command line comes back and it tells me there are errors. I don't think we ever connected to the linuxbox with the root login, I only used that account to install packages, etc. |
What are the errors printed on your screen when startx fails.
|
There were 2 errors I could see
Fatal Server Error Cannot open default font 'fixed' and XIO-fatal IO error 104 (connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0" after 0 requests (0 known processed with 0 events remaining. |
If you are using RHEL4 then try running as root "system-config-display --reconfig" or if Running RHEL3 or Redhat 9 try running "redhat-config-display --reconfig".

Well, my monitor kept turning off and on (actually, it turned off and only turned on for a few seconds when I moved my mouse. It says that there was an input-output error... Then it said something about the Xserver but I couldn't catch it; screen just went pure blank and my monitor shuts down. The 'reboot' command didn't even work so I had to press the restart button on my machine.
I guess my Linux needs a reinstall? |
