Can't download updates

Hi everyone,
I have only posted on here a few times, so still consider myself new.
Suddenly, I cannot download updates, I haven't had issues before.
This error will show up:

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

Any suggestions?
Thank you

What happened when you ran
Code:

dpkg --configure -a
??

This error comes up:
dpkg: error: requested operation requires superuser privilege

frankbell 08-07-2019 08:20 PM

Your user agent icon indicates that you are running Ubuntu or a derivative of Ubuntu. Try prefacing the command with sudo:

Code:

sudo dpkg --configure -a
If that doesn't work, please tell us what distro/version you are running.

lost

I am running Linux mint 18.3 sylvia
I have to admit, i am totally lost on this.
This is what comes up in command:

zenda27@zenda27-HP-15-Notebook-PC ~ $ sudo dpkg --configure -a
[sudo] password for zenda27:

Then it will not let me put password in.

scasey 08-08-2019 08:23 PM

The password won’t show when you type it, you know. (Or maybe you don’t;))
Type your password and hit enter.

frankbell 08-08-2019 09:15 PM

The sudo password is your user password.

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.

Ok, so same as four years ago when you posted the same problem, with the same message. Run "sudo dpkg -configure -a", as the system told you. Is this a trick question?

I noticed the question was the same when I logged back on here.
I could not find how to even start a new thread, so replied to old post i had.
No tricks, just illiterate on Linux, i guess.
I wiped out computer and started over with Linux a few months ago and now I cannot do updates.
I do like this operating system but is very hard for me.
Anyhow, have a great day

On this screen do you see the 'new thread' button on the left?
Quite obvious how to start a new thread.

Reading your own thread would have given you the same answer without a new post.

But you did start a new thread...which got merged here, since they were identical. So obviously you did know how to start a new thread.

The answer is, again, the same as it was four years ago when you originally asked it. The command is very clear...the solution is identical. Not sure what else you'd like to know.

Updates resolved

Dear Moderator/s
I appreciate the links to solve the update issue.
I had restored the computer to default and had a different password, (my bad).
I had some help to fix issue, even though on my end when I/husband log in, from web or through response on email i see no link on left for new thread. I am glad this is resolved Ty
