Wifi error popping up every few minutes in Kubuntu
I just installed Kubuntu 23.10 on a new desktop PC I built, which uses an AX210NGW DTK M.2 wifi card:
Code:
e4:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Wi-Fi 6 AX210/AX211/AX411 160MHz (rev 1a) I checked the logs in /var/log/dmesg and saw that there were a ton of error messages in there that look like this: Code:
[ 44.926474] kernel: Intel(R) Wireless WiFi driver for Linux I am happy to provide any other information that is helpful to debug. |
What kernel version do you use?

You can try following action. Basically, the parameters has to be applied when the iwlwifi module is loaded. The parameters are dependent on kernel version.
1) Create the file, /etc/modprobe.d/iwl.conf 2) Add following lines to the above file. options iwlwifi 11n_disable=1 options iwlwifi swcrypto=0 options iwlwifi bt_coex_active=0 options iwlwifi power_save=0 options iwlwifi uapsd_disable=1 options iwlmvm power_scheme=1 |

My :twocents:: web-searching them might be best.

Based on your dmesg, the error is "Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x0.". My post can fix the error against kernel 5.10.

There is other advice online that recommends enabling software crypto, i.e. "options iwlwifi 11n_disable=1 swcrypto=1", and other advice suggesting "options iwlwifi 11n_disable=8" (which enables "antenna aggregation"; whatever that might be), and so on. The presence of Bluetooth messages in the logs might indicate that "options iwlwifi bt_coex_active=0" is the only setting needed (or maybe it is needed in conjunction with others) - although since Linux kernel 5.8 that is already the default for some hardware, so it might also have no effect. If you're making a blind guess with config that you happened to use in a similar situation, that's ok - but you should make it clear that's what you're doing. jferments: I can't help with what params/values will or will not solve your issue, but if you run "modinfo --parameters iwlwifi" (as root/sudo) it will output the parameters for the iwlwifi module along with short descriptions to give you a brief idea of what's what. To view the current values of the parameters, you can use the /sys pseudo-filesystem to obtain them, via (e.g.) "tail /sys/module/iwlwifi/parameters/*" (doesn't need root, but might want to pipe via "less" if on a small non-scrolling terminal). |
> jferments is asking if you can can you explain why disabling 802.11n, software crypto, Wifi/Bluetooth coexistence, Wifi power managerment, and U-APSD functionality will resolve the issue?
Based on error code, the WiFi driver can NOT work with other modules. Disabling these functionalities could help to solve the issue, special Wifi/Bluetooth coexistence. |
