Slight issues after adding router to network.

Background. I had a system networked with Comcast through a cable modem plugged into my eth0 interface. I am running Debian stable etch. The interface was configured with dhcp. Everything connected. Knetworkmanager showed my 3com as the active device. Kopete connected fine.

I picked up an MS router. I set my 3com eth0 to static ip with a default gateway setting in the /etc/network/interfaces file. I was able to connect to the internet but Knetworkmanager could not show active devices. Kopete will no longer connect to Yahoo. (and it connected just before installing the router). I also set static ip in the windows side and couldn't even get a connection to the internet.

So I reset the eth0 to DHCP. Knetwork manager now shows active device as my 3com. Network still connects. but Kopete still won't connect. (also reset the 3com to dhcp in windows and got internet connection back).

Everything seems fine except Kopete. When I start it from console it gives the error message:

QMetaObject::findSignal:ClientStream: Conflict with Stream::readyRead()
Transfer ACCEPTED by: LoginTask
Transfer ACCEPTED by: LoginTask
Transfer ACCEPTED by: LoginTask
Transfer ACCEPTED by: LoginTask
QMetaObject::findSignal:ClientStream: Conflict with Stream::readyRead()

I've read online about similar error messages and haven't found any resolution. As this is only related somehow to installing the router I feel I'm just missing something. Also, since installing the router I have used guarddog to disable my firewall since the router has a hardware firewall. Just to be sure that isn't an issue.

I even tried disabling the firewall in the router and that didn't help. But I think I might have to do some more digging on that point. Other than that I am still stuck.

I also checked with my Mandriva 1 2008 cd. Kopete won't connect from there either even though the network is connected. I'm thinking it could be an issue with ports in regards to the router. But looking for anyone who might have dealt with this already.

Now I'm not sure if this is even a linux issue. I'm thinking it might be a Yahoo issue. Did they change the protocol again? I disconnected the router again. Got the network back up. Even booted up into Mandriva 1 again without the router. Kopete from there won't connect either. No router, no firewall, different distro. This doesn't look good for Kopete with Yahoo, or Pidgin either. And from searches online there doesn't seem to be a fix.

Anyone else having these issues?
