Question 1 Firewall Log Question 2 Network Monitor
I'm in Suse 9.1 Professional
I'm wondering where the firewall log file is, I can't seem to find one anywhere and it doesn't specify in the yast firewall dialog. Also, is there a website that deals with security in Suse 9.1, that someone might have on hand? I'm also wondering if there is a tool availible maybe on this distro's cd's or somewhere on the net that will allow me to monitor my server in real time from another computer. I've seen something similar to this somewhere I just can't remember where. |

Heres a good one for someone who might need it. Ya know it seems like nothing gets answered on LQ anymore, I don't know what the deal is but it's rather sad. |
I have the exact same problem, and I can't find the log file anywhere. Do I ned to set it up in syslog myself?

From a usenet post on the net. . .
'Firewall logs' are actually kernel messages and as such can be found in /var/log/messages (depending on the syslog logging level - see the syslog.conf file). |
If you check your root mail after update.
In Suse Pro 9.1 after update you should see a couple messages in there about the firewall. The message will say something about Suse taking it out of the syslog.conf file in the middle of the message you'll see a snippit of script it looks something like *kernel firewall (I'm doing this from memory) After you add that code to your syslog.conf file I put it add the bottom the logs will show up in /var/log as the above poster specified. I don't know why they took that out as it could come in handy. |
