what phone/pda to buy Jan 2009

I'm intending to up[grade my phone ( a little Samsung thing which I _do_not_ get on with). My needs/wants are a little unusual. I'm hoping for a quick feedback from owners.

I have seen HP Ipaq and I find the keys and text too small - just.
Any suggestions welcome.

Need:
Mobile Phone, & text sms

Want:
linux, or as a last resort some other OS.
usable without reading glasses
Decent Camera, notebook, usb connection to pc.

would be nice but would hardly use:
gps, Blackberry.

Do not need/want:
wap (I have pcs in work & at home)
Music features.
Synch with m$ outlook
microscopic keys/text.
Navigating 26 menus just to send a text!

Two routes

There are two routes that you might want to consider. One is nokia, but the support for linux base is wanting.

Palm would be a better option, fast sync and fast reboot. Not to forget the after sales technical support is good. I have not called them for linux tech support but the windows tech support is very good for something that comes free.

Thanks Wilfgascon

Noika is top of my 'never buy' list - I hate the feel of every one I've held.

I was kind of working around to Palm, or 'something else' because I simply don't know the market and don't want to have to listen to hours of b.s. from technical sales geeks to the sound of deafening music. Likewise I was not looking forward to reading gigabytes of crap from same. But I haven't held any yet.

As for tech support - let's face it, having to ring the _phone_ company for answers on linux is a bit like admitting you've wet your trousers :-). What's the web for?
