Android is annoying but we still need it
 

Android has become the major player of all mobile operating systems with around 70% users base, and it can not only be used on mobile but also desktop and other devices like TV and router etc., but on and off I find it annoying. My phone runs on Android 13, there are added features as well as added annoyance ! say for example 2 things, the 'open by default' and hotspot timeout.


I got a Nokia XR20, it has a not very good camera, I found it over-exposed when shooting at close range with flash, and the image was too cool and lacked color saturation, so I installed other camera apps to try. I used hotkey to quick start the camera, but I couldn't change the default, I can do it on previous versions. I then disabled the stock camera but I can't set another as default there's no such option, without the stock camera the hotkey won't do a thing at all.

The other thing is the hotspot timeout, there used to be a user settable timeout to turn it off when there was no activity at preset time, but there is no such option on V13, and the default is set too short like 1 min.

I don't see Android has improved to the stage of real user friendliness, but we still need it for most everyday tasks, what do you think about it ?

Bootloader locked Android devices other than computers and TVs are a pain to fully back up. At least on many other Linux distros for phones and tablets you can just pull a system image. Android continuously strives to make things better. With that there may be some regressions though. I still have an Android 5.1.1 phone. One feature that I have never seen used is cameras, now all at once can view and record. I prefer alternatives to Android and Windows. Android is not necessarily a need but a good to know. No operating system please all but goal should be to please most it can. One reason why we have popular operating systems but many Linux systems. Every operating system has its quirks. Android may be easiest to get but that is not to say we need it. Also, ever thought of rooting and installing another Linux? You may be able to keep your phone and carrier. Or not. X E.

My first smartphone was Motorola E something I forgot, it was a Linux phone with touch control but not well supported, then later I joined the Android camp. The first problem I had with Android was around V4-5 that permission required to write to external drive that's fine, but there's a bug that on some apps did not remember the settings and keep asking for permission every time, some badly written apps will crash when it can't access the drive. The current annoying problem I've is the 'cached actions' on slower phone, when I take a photo it won't show up on the gallery until a long delay, and when I delete a photo it still there to stay until a long delay, so that I delete again and my other valuable photos gone ! I wanted to try the Pinephone, but most of my needed apps are on Android like some online payment apps that I can not go without, I don't know how well Android is supported on Pinephone, I would give it a try.
