Problem with Workspaces

I'm running Linux Mink 6 on 2 desktops and a laptop. All are installed from the same installation disk. On the destkops the "workstations" work the same way as when I had Ubuntu 8.10, but on the laptop, they cannot be labeled and when switching an image of "workstations" goes flying across the screen in a most annoying fashon. Anyway to correct this behavour.

I have re-installed Mink on my lapetop 3 times with the same results.
Help would be appreciated

Which is what?

I'm guessing you are talking about the workspaces - changed via ctrl+alt+l/r-arrow or the workspace switcher applet in the panel.

Again - too vague. "a most annoying manner" describes your reaction, not the behavior.

Have you tried setting the 3D desktop effects to minimal - or disabling them?

When I press ctrl+alt+rt-arrow, the workspace I am looking at slides to the left, revealing a new workspace for me to use.

Thanks.
I guess my question is when using the same disc and the same procedure to intall Mint 6 on my desktops (2) and my laptop, I get two different workstations. I can label them on the desktops, but not on the laptop.
I have done this several times on each and I get the same result.

Since my last e-mail I have loaded Ubuntu 9.04 with the same results.

Thank

The install is going to be different between different machines though. Look hard at what is different between the two machines.

However - you have yet to describe the problem clearly. So I cannot be specific.

For me - all machines here (hp nx5000, acer 4315, and two custom desktops) will accept labels for the workspaces with Ubuntu 9.04, provided the advanced desktop effects is disabled. Perhaps some machines have HW 3D accel and others do not?

When I upgraded to Mint 7, I was able to set the workspaces as I wanted on my laptop.
